DISABLED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE (TRANSITIONS) (SCOTLAND) BILL

Johann Lamont MSP formally launched her proposed Members' Bill, the Disabled Children and Young People (Transitions) (Scotland) Bill, on 9 October 2019.

There are three key elements to the proposed Bill:

  • Introduction of a Scottish Government national transitions strategy to improve outcomes for children and young people with a disability in the transition to adulthood
  • Appointment of a Scottish Government Minister with special responsibility for transitions
  • A requirement for local authorities to introduce a transitions plan for each child and young person with a disability.

The Bill has been developed by Ms Lamont, with support from Camphill Scotland and Inclusion Scotland.
