Following the recent award of grant funding through the Scottish Government’s 2019/20 Vacant & Derelict Land Fund Programme, North Lanarkshire Council are currently in the process of developing plans for the establishment of community allotments on the vacant land at Hillrigg.
It is hoped that this scheme will not only provide opportunity for local residents to secure accessible allotment plots but also that this now derelict site can be restored back to an attractive greenspace which could incorporate, for example, wildflower areas or community woodland.
It is intended that the proposed allotments, as with other community allotments across North Lanarkshire, would be managed by a community management group specifically set up to take forward the running of the allotments scheme.
If you are interested in being involved in the management of this community facility or would simply like to register an interest in being considered for an available plot, a consultation event is taking place in the Stanrigg Sports Hall and Community Centre in Greengairs on:
Tuesday 19th November at 9:30am – 12pm
Wednesday 20th November at 3:30pm – 6pm
The format of this event will be a general drop in to view and discuss options and plans for the proposed allotment, tea and coffee will be provided.
It you would like to be involved in the allotments project (either as part of the management group or as a plot holder) but can’t make the consultation event, your interest can also be registered by contacting Kin Wa Li (Community Learning Development Worker, North Lanarkshire Council) on 01236 638 606.
